To learn to listen inwards is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. It might not be so easy in the beginning though, when you’re used to live in a high tempo. The benefits of listening inwards however are that you may achieve a higher level of tranquility and wellbeing.
It took me many years to give my body and soul what it actually needed. Many times, I pushed myself too hard, in both my professional life and with training. It was not until I started my studies to become a Health Coach that I become more attentive of myself and my own needs, in a much more profound level than ever before. This was the time by the way, when half liters ice cream boxes were what I tried to soothe myself with to feel better.
Not only did I stop a destructive behavior and binge eating, but I did also find tranquility from within when I started to nourish myself in various ways.
Because that is really what it is about. To nourish yourself so you’ll be strong, physically and mentally, and with a high level of wellbeing.
Nourishment can come in many ways, such as from the food that you eat, the exercise that you do, the relationships that you have, from the religion that you’re practicing and so on. And that is also how I work as an online trainer and coach; I look at the big picture and I empower you to achieve your goals such as fat loss, but also to succeed and achieve a higher level of wellbeing.
When you don’t listen inwards, you might sooner or later get stuck or feel dissatisfaction in life.
When you do listen to your body however, you’ll be attentive to your needs and you’ll be flexible as you’re finding your way forward.
Actions for being in harmony with yourself
On a daily basis; have an intention for the day of what you want to achieve such as your workout and eating more vegetables. In the evening, check-in and see how you feel. How did you feel during the day? How was your mood, energy, cravings and digestion for example? And on a weekly basis, check in with yourself and take note of how you’re feeling. How’s your sleep, energy & vitality, digestion, cravings, body shape & weight, posture & breathing, emotions and how you’re relating to others? By writing, you’ll reflect and you’ll increase your awareness, which can make you take actions forward.
Make time for yourself and prioritize yourself.
As I use to say; “Happy mum and wife, happy family”. Our body has been given to us in a trust from Allah SWT, and we need to take care of it. A healthy lifestyle is preferably the foundation of your life and you build your life around that. When you for example will prioritize your 30-60 min workouts, 3 times a week, you’ll see how you’ll gain so much more energy and strength in everyday life!
Notice how your body responds to exercise.
Do you feel happier and stronger afterwards? Do you have more energy in your life? Ensure that each session makes you feel better than before.
Practice being attentive.
There is a sweet spot between pushing forward to progress, but also being in control and keeping up momentum. Work on finding that sweet spot. This includes to sometimes sleep more, sometimes do a less intense workout but also to push yourself out of your comfort zone. This step is really about giving yourself love and care.
Just give yourself time to just sit. Just focus on your breath and be aware of your inner voice, feelings, emotions and your physical body. I love to be by the sea or in the forest regularly, because that’s where I most easily can reflect. But even a quite shower without any children nearby can make wonders! Or just sitting on the balcony.
Moderation is key and find balance.
Just like in the perfect religion of Islam. Alhamdullilah. Think longterm. Do what you do for yourself to feel strong and happy, do actions that you can keep and establish healthy routines. Literally. Build a strong foundation and then it’ll be part of your lifestyle. An example is to get a program as of your needs, and establish a regular fitness routine from now onwards. Learn the skills about nutrition and how to nourish yourself, so you’ll get in excellent shape without dieting and struggle.
Add in, to crowd out.
Focus on nourishment. Focus on the foods that you actually need, in order to reduce and let go of cravings. This requires the skill to listen inwards. And when you eat, do so mindfully. How are you feeling when you’re chewing the food and how are you feeling afterwards?
Sleep, stress management and anxiety.
To get sufficient, quality sleep is important for your wellbeing and recovery, both physically and mentally. To be aware of your breath, eating habits and emotions each day, is also important.
Alhamdullilah for Islam, which teaches us to trust Allah, that everything that happens is god for a believer and that we pray at least five times a day. All this will also boost your inner and outer strength. Again, think nourishment and attentiveness.
When you start to practice the above, you’ll also start to understand yourself and your body signals. By doing so, you can also start to trust yourself even more as you’ll give your body and mind, what it actually needs!
Alhamdulillah. The objective of this topic is to make you feel even better than you do right now, and to make you even stronger. Because when you’re listening to your body, you’ll make healthy changes as needed and you’ll continue to progress with a feeling of harmony, in Shaa Allah.
