بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful
The gym used to be my second home. If I wasn’t having a client in the gym, I was teaching a class or working out myself. In Qatar, I had Spa memberships that I now can only dream about. So how do we as sisters find motivation to workout, when we don’t have any gym available, and can only do our training at home? This is about finding motivation on 7 sqm.
First and foremost you have to think about what your goal is. What your ideal body is, what your goals and needs are. If you are a woman like I am now for example, you want to build up your body and have good health. You like to feel toned, firm, strong and energized. But you’re also time sensitive, perhaps even being a stay-at-home mum. Then 2-4 times of bodyweight and strength training per week at home, can make you achieve your goals of weight control, weight loss, strength and energy. 1-2 days of cardio can be made in form of walking or jogging outdoor.
Secondly, you need to have motivation to follow your plan. It requires more from you than going to the gym and attend a group training class with an inspiring instructor. But still, you always need to find your own drive and reason to do what you do. I’ll take myself as an example as I’m asking myself “why” 3 times.
Why do you workout? I love the strength and energy that I get.
Why? I don’t like to feel fluffy, sluggish and lazy.
Why? Training makes me happy, training makes me feel and be healthy, but also firm and toned.
When you know what your motivation is and how it makes you feel, then it’s easier to keep going. Compared to if you’re on an extreme diet and think like “…weight loss because I’m fat and I have to be slim because the women in advertisement are looking like anorectic models”. Extreme example perhaps, but you get my point.
So first was to clearly know what you like to achieve, and what you are happy with. Second was to find your deep inner motivation, that will give you your drive.
Third is to know what to do, and have a structure. Something to follow. This is where it’s so beneficial to have an online trainer, which you can find here https://www.womenlifestyletraining.com/services/.
But otherwise I’m encouraging you to take a moment to think about your goals, and then make a plan. Depending on your goals and needs, the training you’ll do needs to dictate that. Do you need help in this regard? Welcome to comment below or send me an email.
When you know what to do, and are sure about your technique and have made a program, you are more likely to succeed. Results will come faster and motivation will increase.
If you on the other hand, know that you’re not taking care of yourself as you actually think you should and aren’t improving or progressing; this will probably create sadness and inner frustration. Don’t do that to yourself.
It’s not good for yourself, nor your husband neither children. No one benefits.
We don’t even need any fatwas or proofs from the Qur’aan or Sunnah, that a muslimah should be in good health, and be strong physically and mentally. If I’m tired, sad and lazy; I’ll not benefit anyone. Not myself and not other people. This dunya is nothing but a test to do good deeds. We are more likely to do good deeds when we are feeling well. And to have energy to be kind with our family and others, we need to get the energy from somewhere.
We aren’t perfect, we are humans and perfection belongs to our Creator. But, we should strive for excellence in everything we do.
Just like my mum always taught me when I was a kid, “you must be careful with other people’s belongings. You have only borrowed it, they borrowed it to you in trust”.
Our body was given to us in trust from Allah SWT. SubhanAllah Alhamdullilah.
Do I then don’t want to be strong and extremely thankful? What an honor. Thankfulness for my life! I want to be representable and I want to be confident.
Because, I’ve been given the gift of guidance, the gift of being muslimah.
I hope this article helped you to see and feel a positive wheel of linking the first three components together with our purpose of life.
I hope this creates a strong inner motivation for you, that will give you the drive you need to workout on your mat or 7 square meters too. Alhamdulillah.
